Artist living and working on Guernsey...

I am artist living and working on the beautiful Channel Island of Guernsey. I am married and mother of two adult sons.

We moved to Guernsey in 2011 after having sailed to Brazil on our 37ft Sweden Yacht, the family adventure ended in near tragedy with my husband Richard being hit by an enormous wave on the beach and breaking his neck. Having made a remarkable recovery we now live in a beautiful listed Guernsey Farmhouse on the north of the island, and have converted an old barn into my beautiful studio, Clock Barn Studio.

Our home is opposite L’Ancresse Common, a haven of wild flowers, butterflies and bees, and a short walk from two contrasting beaches, one a beautiful sandy bay and the other atmospheric and rugged.

My inspiration is on my doorstep….

The Art of Nature on Paper

My current body of work is titled “The Art of Nature on Paper”

Having spent much of my life beside the sea or on the sea, beaches have become an obsession of mine. Moving to Guernsey, which has some of the strongest tides in the world the patterns and nature of the intertidal zone have become a fascination.
I began using conventional methods of painting the beach views and patterns, then moved to texture paste to try and recreate them in relief, and even making worm casts from string.

Never quite being able to capture the amazing, transient patterns when the tide receded, I decided to print directly print off the beach, using charcoal powder as it has to have little or no detriment to the environment.

I just love the raw quality of the prints which still seem to retain the very essence of the sea.

The work is mostly monochrome, framed and on 220 gsm quality cartridge paper, I am just making forays onto canvas.

Acting as a facilitator to nature, trees that draw and paint in the wind, the meanderings of top shells as they munch their way across the paper, I find the possibilities are endless…
